Alleged Fulani Herdsmen Attack On Another Community In Nigeria

The state newspaper report of Fulani herdsmen attack on this community after the rejection of the open grazing field policy tout by the Nigeria federal government. During this attack, one man lost his life and a few others including his the brother of the deceased was seriously wounded.

Tension in the city Ikot Atasung is high and youths in the community are agitating for revenge according to report. A few community leaders who advocate for peace was seen helping the community restore peace by talking to the agitating youths of the community.

Despite the appeal from the village elders, tension is yet to be at minimal in the community.

“Suspected Fulani herdsmen in the early hours of yesterday (Sunday) attacked Ikot Atasung Village in Ikot Ekpene where one Silvanus Peter Usen was killed and his brother, Andrew was severely injured and is currently at the hospital battling to survive.

” A possible faceoff between the angry youths and the Hausa Community in Ikot Ekpene was avoided through the intervention of some political actors and the police. However, there is an air of uncertainty in Ikot Ekpene now,” the source quoted by The Nation said.

The Akwa Ibom Police Spokesperson, Odiko Macdon said the Police Area Command has received reports on what happened in the community, and the State Police Commissioner, Andrew Amiengheme acted swiftly to ask different command in the area to investigate the matter thoroughly.

“We have received that report, it is an unfortunate one. The CP has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident with the aim of apprehending the perpetrators of the act.

“And I want to believe that in no distance time we will have an update on the incident because those who have committed the act must be brought to book,” Macdon assured.
