Ambassador Alex E. Kefas Presents Letters of Credence to the President of Portugal

The Ambassador, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Portugal, His Excellency Ambassador Alex E. Kefas presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of Portugal, His Excellency, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on Tuesday July 13, 2021 at the Presidential Palace in Lisbon.

During the event, the Ambassador relayed the regards of the President, His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari, highlighting his achievements from the first tenure in 2015 to date while at it. He listed the President’s achievements in Economy, Fighting corruption and Security and the massive infrastructural development across the nation. The envoy used the medium to advocate for the establishment of a Joint Commission which will serve as the major canopy for all aspects of bilateral relations between both countries, commending the nation’s company Mota Ingil for winning the contract award for the construction of Kano-Maradi railway.

Still commending the Portuguese Government, Ambassador Alex applauded the Navy for hosting Nigerian Navy’s ships during stop-overs in Portugal and for attending the yearly Nigerian Naval Military Exercises. While appreciating the relationship between the military of both nations, the Nigerian Principal Envoy advised the Portuguese government to expand the Defence cooperation between the two nations such that it includes training of the Nigerian military and other security agencies to tackle the rising security challenges, as well as collaborating with Nigeria in fighting pirates in the Gulf of Guinea.

Finally, Ambassador Kefas highlighted the investment opportunities that abound in Nigeria, urging Portuguese investors to take advantage of these opportunities, leveraging on the incentives provided by the Nigerian Government to invest in various sectors of the economy.

In response, President Marcelo congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and wished him a successful tour of duty.
