The National Coordinator of the Congress of University Academics (CONUA), the new carve out from the Academics Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr. Adeniyi, has stated what the union will do differently compared to ASUU. Adeniyi said on Tuesday, while he spoke on Arise Tv, that the use of strike action to make known demands in the country, a strategy which has been employed for over 40 years with little results, needs to be reviewed. He submitted that no agreement has been achieved by putting the government under duress. The coordinator said the academics should have been after democratising the university setting; that a lot would have been different if bodies write their demands democratically, rather than undertaking strike actions.
Adeniyi added that the academics must look at issues from different points of view; that their faculties would observe a totally different way of making decisions by discussing peaceably, in a way that the other party would not feel like it is a force.
