The simultaneous entry of Croatia into the euro zone and the passport-free Schengen Area on January 1, 2023, was welcomed by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and several other commissioners on Friday. They hailed this as a “great achievement for both Croatia and the European Union.”
On Friday, the Commission released a statement outlining Croatia’s path to joining the two organisations. According to Paolo Gentiloni, the commissioner for the economy, the Croatian people will have a memorable new year.
