To eliminate fraud and promote easier collection of certificates, The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), launched digital certifications. This is the electronic version of the physical paper certificates given to students that have completed their secondary school leaving examinations. The National Office Head of WAEC, Mr. Patrick Areghan, revealed this in Lagos on Thursday. This was at the launch of the new digital certification platform. Mr. Patrick highlighted that it will be accessible to institutions and organizations, to prove authenticity of holders. By doing so, it will be very impossible to fake the certificates. He added that these certificates will be available from December 2022.
This development will definitely reduce costs and stress that is involved with the former process of collecting certificates. The cost of accessing the certificate is N7500; for confirmation, it costs N5000; and to share, N3000. Certificates from 1999 till date, will be available on the platform. As a result, original copies can be accessed from anywhere in the world by certificate holders. Users will use www.waec.org. to access the platform on their mobile phones or through other means connected to the web.
