Reps Majority Leader Doguwa Remanded in Court

The Kano State police command stormed the House Leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, over his role in the electoral violence at the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly election.

Doguwa evaded arrest first which made the police to activate a motion that now led to his arrest by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bompai, Kano, at Malam Kano International Airport.

The swift arrest against the federal lawmaker was sequel to the complaint that was received on the gruesome murder of three persons, and grievous injury of eight others in Tudun Wada LGA on 26th of February , 2023 while the collation of election results was ongoing.

Ado Doguwa was arraigned on six counts charges of culpable homicide, illegal possession of fire arm, criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, mischief by fire, and inciting disturbance. He was arraigned at the Nomansland Magistrates Court, before Magistrate Ibrahim Mansour Yola and he pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

There was legal fireworks between the prosecution and defence counsel over the court’s jurisdiction to entertain the case.

Lami Abba Soron Dinki told the court that culpable homicide is not a bailable offence and submitted that the accused person should be sent to a remand home to enable the police conduct robust investigation.

Magistrate Ibrahim Mansour Yola ruled that the House Leader should be remanded at Kano Central Correctional Centre till the 7th of March.
