The Peoples Democratic Party Campaign Council of Edo state has expressed worry over a plot by the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and APC rulers in Edo to rig and procure votes during the governorship election on the 19th day in September with N300 million polled from local councils in Lagos State.
Chris Osa Nehikhare, Chairman of the council’s publicity and media committee, in a statement, noted intelligence at the council’s disposal disclosed that every local council in Lagos State has been instructed to contribute N15 million to finance the rigging plan. He said, “Again, we are stressing this obvious fact to the world and all democracy lovers that APC is making an attempt to rig the governorship election coming up Saturday, 19th of September, 2020, by assembling N300 million from each Lagos State local council with each contributing N15 million to effect the menacing plan.
“At a time when Lagosians are in distress, caused by the unexpected change of biting economic hardship under the auspices of the APC government’s policies, it is disturbing and disappointing that the party is deploying resources of Lagos State to sabotage the will of Edo People.” But the Chairman of the APC Media Campaign Council, Mr. John Mayaki, in his reaction alleged that Nehikhare made up the story.
He reacted, “The PDP is well-known nationwide for its matchless falsehood. They are masters of falsehood. Whenever Nehikhare gets excited and tries to make up one, he goes over the top with it. It is clear that the man was unaware of what he was saying. He should get in touch with Chief Dan Orbih, his mentor, to lecture him on the art.”
Mayaki said further that it is known by Edo people that APC has no interest in dishonest politics. He added, “What do we stand to achieve from buying votes that the people have already pledged to us? Why would Lagos local government councils raise that kind of money for us? Do they not have anything to do with such money in Lagos?” He asked what Lagos will use for its development if they went about providing APC states with that kind of outrageous amount. His thoughts were made known when he said their claim was due to APC’s earlier leak on Obaseki’s order to council chairmen to release the sum of N1.7 million to 18 local government Electoral Officers.
