Edo State 2020 – Almost immediately after the Channels Television Governorship Debate with candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Godwin Obaseki and Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in attendance, the result revealed on Sunday night from an international examiner, Flash Poller, shows Obaseki earned 76.3 per cent of the favourable votes while APC’s Ize-Iyamu earned 23.7 per cent.
The spectators, who were sampled randomly by Flash Poller, noted that the Edo State Governor and PDP bearer showed a firm understanding of growth issues, which are; partnership with development agents such as the World Bank and his premium on due process, transparency, the rule of law and resource mobilization.
Some participants tied Gov obaseki dazzling performance in the above-highlighted area to his immense experience in the corporate world, his business background, eight-year profession as leader of the Economic Management Team in the state and his four years as governor of the state.
A spectator of the CHANNELS TV Debate and poll respondent told Flash Poller that from Obaseki’s presentation, it was obvious that “he understands modern tools of development and governance.” He further cited the effective deployment of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and strategic partnership with the private sector and traditional institution as examples.
However, Ize-Iyamu’s 23.7% votes came as a result of his perceived ability to spur the political class, having a longer history in partisan politics. But the spectators assessed said they wouldn’t know how this fellow feeling with the political class would result to better socio-economic status for majority of Edo State individuals.
