FALANA ASKS GBAJABIAMILA TO PRESSURE FG TO REACH AN AGREEMENT WITH ASUU

Date:

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), and a Lawyer representing the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Mr. Femi Falana, appealed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, and others to pressure the Federal Government to reach an agreement with ASUU. He did this through a lecture at the fourth convocation ceremony of Augustine University, Ilara Epe, Lagos. The Lecture was titled: ‘Remaking Nigeria: The Youth as Change Agents.’

Femi Falana said that citizens have the collective responsibility to ensure that the agreements between the Federal Government and ASUU, are implemented. “Appealing to lecturers to return to class has been granted by ASUU, so all those who appealed to the union, should also appeal to the government to keep.their pledges. It is not right that one should continue working without payment, especially in the educational sector.

“The Youths are being robbed by the same government that ought to protect their interests for the progress of the nation. The youths have brought honours to the Country through sports, science and technology, music, arts, amongst others. Why do Fathers refuse to pass the baton of rulership to the youths in the first place?”

An example of honour brought to the country can be referred to in Tobi Amusan, The 25-year-old African Commonwealth and World 100 meters hurdles Champion. Can any honour be pointed out that was brought by our leaders? This is a question that everyone needs to answer sincerely.
