Gettr – Jason Miller, a former senior adviser to President Trump has launched Gettr, a social media platform which according to him was set up to: “…challenge…social media monopolies.” When interviewed by Fox News, he said “We believe there needs to be a new social media platform that really defends free speech, and one that doesn’t de-platform for political beliefs.” The name Gettr he said was coined from two words – Getting Together – implying “Let’s get together, we’re talking about a sense of community.”
At the interview, Miller, describing the platform called it a “cancel-free zone” with “superior technology;” a feature he said will “be the envy” of Silicon Valley. “We’re starting a cutting edge technology that will really be the envy of the social media world.” Still on the peculiarities of Gettr, Miller Said users can post up to 777 characters messages, post clearer pictures, edit and post videos that are up to three minutes long; an extra being the ability to edit the videos within the app.
Some other benefits of signing up on the Gettr platform according to the former senior adviser include the ability to import previous tweets upon signing up on the app. “You can import these tweets so that your hard work, creativity, your intellectual property comes with you,” he added that this is a “one-time option upon creating your account.” However, he made it clear that the import does not link back to twitter; a comment that generated the concern that the latter social media platform might pick up a legal fight. Mr. Miller said he is willing to pick up the legal fight, should it come up; alleging that: “They are not publishers, they can’t have it both ways. You can’t say we have a publishing exemption, but you can’t do anything with your own intellectual property. The rules are very clear, you own your tweets and you own your posts.”
More features coming to the platform will include online appreciation and what he called tipping – an act of paying great content creators on the platform. He thinks this will motivate influencers to use the app and “monetize what they’re doing and posting right now.” Another option that will be available is the donation to political users; this is currently under review in order to come up with how the to cap the users’ political donations to fall within election laws. He however stressed that there will be no capping for online appreciations. Other options include verification of prominent users and live streaming.
Gettr Is Open To All
Speaking on those welcomed to Gettr, Mr. Miller said: “we want people from all political stripes to join the platform…we think it will ultimately be a global platform – not just conservatives in the U.S. “Freedom of speech, rejection of cancel culture—if you subscribe and believe in the power of free speech, then this platform is for you.”
When asked if he would love to have President Trump on the platform as opposed to the projections of some that the 45th U.S. president would not want to come on board, Miller said: “We certainly hope President Trump will join the platform, but I’ll leave it to him to make decisions on what he’s doing.”
He added that GETTR is “creating a community here not just for conservatives but for folks from all political affiliations around the world to join. We believe our technology and our user experience will be superior to anything else out there, and we hope that President Trump at some point does join us. I hope he joins, but President Trump has a number of different options he’s considering.”
The app is available on the Google play Store and Apple app store with hundreds of thousands of download and a four star rating.
