Nigerian Content Creators Praise Elon Musk after receiving payment from X

Nigerian content creators have claimed that they have started receiving credit alerts from the socio-microblogging site owned by American businessman, Elon Musk, X, formerly known as Twitter. #TwitterBlue has been trending on the platform and some users have confirmed receiving an email from the social media company, notifying them that some amount has been credited to their account as Ads Revenue Sharing.

In June, Musk announced that Twitter would start to pay content creators for the advertisements displayed in their replies, with an initial payment pool of $5 million.

“Note, the creator must be verified and only ads served to verified users count,” Musk said in a tweet.

Posting a screenshot of the email on his verified Twitter page on Tuesday morning, a user, @WizkidGallery wrote: Thank You Elon Musk! Appreciating him for keeping to his words.” 𝔸b𝕒𝕫𝕫 is also another creator that claimed he received an alert of N220,345.05 from X. He wrote, “Woke up to receive alert. Thank you Elon.” A popular platform that promotes basketball, @TalentedFBG claimed that it was paid $92,000 by Twitter.

Shola, a popular X user said the new policy will favor content creators to get more money for the work done on product adverts. He said, “The good thing about Elon Musk paying content creators is that a lot of brands will now have to do better with paying these creators to promote them henceforth, because with or without creators running ads with their pages, they’d still be eating good. It’s a good start actually.”

Following the payments, it was observed that some users, who hitherto did not subscribe to Twitter Blue, are reconsidering their decision by making attempts to pay for the blue verified checkmark. While this initiative becomes another revenue-generating opportunity for the content creation ecosystem, it is believed that it is also a strategy for Musk to make more money as users would want to subscribe to Twitter Blue to be eligible for the next round of payment.

Musk had confirmed that the first round of payouts, totaling $5 million and cumulative from February onwards, would be processed through Stripe. He encouraged users to pursue the coveted blue verification tick, adding that verified users could potentially earn substantial monthly sums, potentially amounting to thousands of dollars.
