NIPOST’s Digital Postcode Initiative Aims For Enhanced Services

Date:

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has unveiled plans to introduce a digital postcode system and Address Verification System (AVS) in order to revolutionize their delivery operations, bolster revenue streams, and tighten security measures.

During a press conference held in Abuja on Thursday, Sunday Adepoju, the Postmaster General of NIPOST, shared the upcoming implementation of the Postcode and AVS by October this year. The move is expected to not only contribute significantly to the country’s revenue but also address the challenges posed by Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements.

Adepoju emphasized NIPOST’s commitment to embracing digital transformation, recognizing the prominent role of digital solutions and data utilization in the current landscape. The National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System is poised to bring about substantial enhancements in service delivery on a national scale, alongside heightened security measures and an influx of revenue for NIPOST and other governmental entities.

Collaboration played a pivotal role in this initiative, as NIPOST partnered closely with organizations including the National Population Commission, The National Space Research and Development Agency, Office of The Surveyor-General of the Federation, NETPOST, Avaris Worldwide, and other government bodies.

The far-reaching benefits of this endeavor extend across both the public and private sectors; encompassing crime prevention, a reduction in identity fraud, streamlined emergency services coordination, reinforced border control, amplified e-commerce capabilities, refined data collection processes, improved financial inclusion, increased healthcare accessibility, and a boost in tourism prospects.

Nasir Kwarra, Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), affirmed the Commission’s unwavering dedication to the successful implementation of the postcode initiative. This sentiment was echoed by Technical Partners of NIPOST, Michael Akinlose, and Taslim Salaudeen, who underscored the transformative potential of the AVS in propelling Nigeria’s national development and fortifying its economy.
