NEPC LAUNCHES YOUTH FOR EXPORT PROGRAMME TO EMPOWER NIGERIAN YOUTHS

Date:

The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has introduced the Youth for Export Programme, a strategic initiative aimed at equipping young Nigerians with the necessary skills and expertise for successful exports. Dr. Ezra Yakusak, the Executive Director of NEPC, highlighted the program’s goal of tapping into the untapped potential of Nigerian youth and transforming them into export champions.

Dr. Yakusak acknowledged that previous attempts by successive governments to address youth unemployment through entrepreneurship projects faced challenges such as limited access to finance and skill gaps. The Youth for Export Programme was conceived to directly confront these constraints by integrating youth into the non-oil export sector as part of NEPC’s broader Export for Survival campaign.

The program’s focus is on bolstering the capacity of young Nigerians by bridging export-related skill gaps, setting quality standards for export goods, addressing documentation and procedural hurdles, and imparting knowledge about offshore trading intricacies. NEPC plans to partner with Zeenab Goods, operators of the Domestic Export Warehouse in China, to provide training, mentorship, and guidance in areas such as market research, product development, funding access, and market entry.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment, Dr. Evelyn Ngige, emphasized that this initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to enabling post-graduation livelihoods for youths; especially those in the National Youth Service Corps.

In summary, the NEPC’s Youth for Export Programme aims to empower Nigerian youths with skills and knowledge necessary for successful export ventures. By addressing the challenges that hinder previous youth employment initiatives, this program seeks to harness the potential of the younger generation and integrate them into the non-oil export sector. Through partnerships and mentorship, NEPC hopes to guide youths in areas crucial for export success.
