Tinubu to Create 10m Jobs Through Humanitarian Affairs Ministry

Date:

The newly appointed minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, has restated President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to create 10 million jobs through the ministry of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation.

In a statement, the Minister said that the President is passionate about the wellbeing of Nigerians and is therefore determined to create over 10 million jobs through her ministry, and this will be achieved through different interventions and initiatives aimed at reducing poverty.

She added that as a ministry which impact will affect the people directly, she is poised to always be the gauge of the pulse of the people and to attend to their needs.

Dr. Betta Edu, who was inaugurated on Monday alongside 45 other ministers, assured Nigerians of her determination to ensure transparency and accountability during her tenure.

The Humanitarian Ministry seeks to ease the suffering people face and maintain/reestablish circumstances that honour and protect human dignity with a mission of developing good humanitarian policies and provide effective coordination of National and International humanitarian interventions that will benefit Nigerians and remove them from poverty.

She concludes by adding that the ministry will also be working on President Tinubu’s action plan to pull 136 million Nigerians out of poverty. “The journey to achieving this great feat has just begun, Nigerians will get results soon,” she said.

One concern expressed by citizens is the kind of jobs that will be created if the government is not providing solutions to challenges that could create the jobs. An example given is the revitalisation of the Nigerian Textile Industry. There has been no word from the government on this as yet; in spite of the job creation opportunities it would present.

To create a job, there ought to be the presence of a need for an expertise in a particular area. A lot of industries that have gone moribund in the nation ought to be revitalised at the least, before job creation cam become a subject of discussion. Otherwise, it will be added to the list of empty promises made by politicians just excite the populace.
