LASU Declared Greatest School by India’s Consulate General

Date:

Loud sounds of excitement reigned down from students and members of staff of the Lagos State University (LASU) on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, as the institution was declared one of the greatest in Nigeria and the best in Lagos.

The declaration was announced by an international figure: the Consulate-General of India (the official Head of the Indian Government in Nigeria), Mahesh Narasimhan, shortly after his country’s unmanned spacecraft, CHANDRAYAAN-3 successfully landed on the moon at exactly 1:33 pm Nigerian Time on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.

Live streaming of the Indian CHANDRAYAAN-3 moon-landing feat was hosted by Lagos State University at the Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Theatre Hall, Main Campus, Ojo Lagos.

Responding to a question on why his country chose LASU among all the higher institutions in Nigeria to host the live streaming of a feat of such a global phenomenon, Mahesh said:

“LASU is one of the greatest universities in Nigeria and the greatest in Lagos. LASU is doing very well in Science and technology. So, we are very proud to associate with the university and we look forward to more collaborations with her.”

In a short post-event interaction with the media, Prof Adenike Boyo, the university’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, who represented the VC, Prof Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, commended the Consulate General of India and the organising partner, Sanyukta Bharitiya Association, Lagos for choosing LASU as the viewing centre in Nigeria for this historic event.

”Prof Boyo said: ‘We are indeed glad to be associated with this great initiative as it aligns with our drive to leverage science and technology.

”This is a historical event. We decided to bring our children from the LASU International Staff School to witness it live because we are sure that among them tomorrow will be Aeronautic Engineers who, one day, will land Nigeria on the South Pole of the moon since India has today landed on the North Pole of the moon.

“We are indeed glad as a citadel of learning to be associated with this great initiative as it aligns with our drive to leverage science and technology in building a university that stands out as the best in West Africa.”

Meanwhile, Mahesh Narasimhan recalled that CHANDRAYAAN-3 is the third attempt of India to land on the moon. It is finally a huge success and a great feat for which the Republic of India, and indeed, the world, is happy. To this end, CHANDRAYAAN-3 will spend fourteen days of Earth Time and one day of Moon Time at its current abode on the moon.

Shortly after the successful landing, the excited Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, virtually expressed immense joy witnessing the moon-landing feat.

He declared: “India is now on the moon. This is historic. This success is not of India alone but for the world. This is a product of human-centric effort which success belongs to humanity”.
