Lagos Prepares To Streamline Granting Of Planning Permits

Date:

The Lagos State Authority for Physical Planning Permits has hosted an informative seminar aimed at educating members of the Real Estate Development Association of Nigeria about the guidelines, processes, and legal aspects related to land reclamation, title regularization, and waterfront clearance. This initiative is geared towards simplifying the procedure for obtaining permits within the state.

During the event held in Lagos over the weekend, Kehinde Osinaike, the General Manager of LASPPA, explained that the seminar was established to prevent unnecessary delays in acquiring planning permits. This measure intends to prevent scenarios where properties are sealed off or demolished due to non-compliance with building regulations, necessary documentation, statutory fees, and taxes.

Osinaike emphasized that even the most well-conceived urban plans can’t achieve their intended outcomes unless they are rigorously adhered to. This is why legislative measures are being utilized to enforce compliance with the Lagos State Physical Planning and Development Law 2010, the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Regulations 2019, and the Lagos State Building Control Regulations 2019.

Additionally, Mr. Kehinde Gbajumo, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, highlighted that the process of granting waterfront clearance, a prerequisite for planning permits for waterfront developments and layout approvals, must involve the ministry. This coordination is in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Physical Planning Urban Development.
