Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, is among the attendees departing from Abuja to New Delhi, India, to participate in the G-20 Leaders’ Summit; an event drawing leaders from around the world.

The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, extended a unique invitation to President Tinubu; highlighting the importance of his presence at this two-day summit.

The core objective of President Tinubu’s visit is to attract international investments and boost foreign direct investment in key sectors of Nigeria’s economy; particularly those with potentials for job creation and revenue growth.

Known for his expertise in attracting investments during his tenure as the leader of Lagos State, President Tinubu is expected to engage in private discussions with prominent figures from the industrial sector who are also attending the summit.

On the sidelines of the summit, President Tinubu is scheduled to actively participate in and deliver keynote addresses at the Nigeria-India Presidential Roundtable and the Nigeria-India Business Conference. These events aim to foster economic cooperation and partnerships between the two nations.

Furthermore, President Tinubu’s itinerary includes bilateral meetings with leaders from various countries; representing both G-20 and non-G-20 nations; with the objective of enhancing economic ties and cooperation.

The theme of the G-20 Summit, “One Earth-One Family-One Future,” underscores the importance of global unity in addressing pressing challenges facing humanity and the planet.

While Nigeria is not currently a G-20 member, President Tinubu’s participation underscores his aspiration to secure membership for the country; following a thorough evaluation of the potential benefits and risks.

This mission aligns with President Tinubu’s vision of democratizing foreign policy and pursuing long-term strategic goals through a comprehensive approach involving all sectors of society and government.

Accompanying President Tinubu on this mission are key cabinet members; including the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, and Industry, Trade, and Investment.

This visit to India marks President Tinubu’s sixth international destination since taking office; emphasizing his commitment to building international relationships and driving economic progress. Following the conclusion of the Summit, he is expected to return to Nigeria thereafter.
