Lagos Set to Partner Denmark on Food Security

Date:

In the quest for food security in the state, the Lagos State Government has stated that it is open to collaboration with the Kingdom of Denmark to ensure food security.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Consul General and Head of Trade of the Kingdom of Denmark at Alausa, Ms Jette Bjerrum, to Round House, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, noted that the demand for food in Lagos is on the increase owing to its large population.

Considering the fact that the state has always had a relationship with the Kingdom of Denmark, the governor stressed that agriculture is a major focus in his THEMES Agenda; hence the need for such a partnership.

“Lagos, which happens to be the smallest state in Nigeria in terms of land mass, hosts the highest population and as such, the request for food becomes enormous,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

Furthermore, governor Sanwo-olu stated that one of the things the state wants to do is to track the agricultural produce that comes in, as well as the quality, so that it can reduce the cost of food for the people, which is part of his government’s food security initiative.

Speaking on the forthcoming Nordic Nigeria Connect Event in November, Sanwo-Olu urged the country to provide a better understanding of the participating companies so that Lagos will be able to ascertain which sector would be of benefit.

Earlier in her remarks, Consul General and Head of Trade of the Kingdom of Denmark, Ms Bjerrum said that it is very important for Denmark to understand the agenda of the Lagos State Government ahead of the Nordic Nigeria Connect event.

She also said that both the Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mrs, Sune Krostrup, and herself toured Denmark two weeks ago, “where we have been talking to institutional investors, and companies; and we met with Ministers in Denmark, to answer to the invitation of the Nigerian President where he promised that Nigeria is open for business.”
