Nigeria is gearing up to host the 2023 Africa Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF 2023) from September 18 to 21. Organized by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on behalf of the Federal Government, this 12th edition of the annual forum will take place at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, under the theme “Transforming Africa’s Digital Landscape: Empowering Inclusion, Security, and Innovation.”

The AfIGF 2023 aims to facilitate meaningful dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders from across Africa and other international partners. It seeks to advance digital connectivity, address Internet Governance challenges, and empower Africa through digital transformation.

The event kicks off with the African Youth Internet Governance Forum from September 13 to 18, followed by the Parliamentarian Symposium from September 18 to 19. The latter offers parliament members from participating countries a roundtable platform to enhance their understanding of legislative roles in Internet Governance, fostering deeper synergy among African parliaments.

The AfIGF 2023 brings together a diverse range of stakeholders, including government representatives, civil society actors, academia, ICT industry experts, and private sector players. The event features various formats, such as dialogues, workshops, panel sessions, symposia, and roundtables, promoting inclusivity and engagement on Internet Governance matters.

Key topics on the agenda include Digital Inclusion and Connectivity, Cyber Security and Data Protection, Digital Rights and Freedom of Expression, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Emerging Technologies, e-Commerce and Digital Economy, and Data Governance and Trust. Participants will also explore the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in the context of digital literacy and Internet access to accelerate development in Africa.

The AfIGF 2023 boasts a lineup of high-ranking speakers, policy makers, industry experts, and thought leaders from across Africa and beyond. Their expertise and insight will lead to actionable recommendations that can inform policy-making, drive investments, and shape the future of Internet Governance in Africa.

This forum holds the promise of reshaping Africa’s digital landscape, fostering inclusivity, and paving the way for a more prosperous digital future for the continent.
