The Israel government has expressed its commitment to bolstering Nigeria’s policing system. Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, welcomed the Israel Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, and his delegation at his Abuja office on Tuesday. During the meeting, Egbetokun outlined the Nigeria Police Special Intervention Squad; an initiative aimed at combating various forms of crime, including violent offenses nationwide.

Egbetokun emphasized the need for collaborative efforts, focusing on areas such as training, intelligence gathering, and enhanced human capacity building. He encouraged the ambassador to foster a platform for sharing ideas and expertise. In response, the Israeli ambassador affirmed their support in advancing Nigeria’s policing system.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed this significant development; underscoring the Israeli government’s commitment to assisting Nigeria in this endeavor. The meeting, attended by Deputy Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Inbar Garden, as well as key members of the Police Force Management team, marked a pivotal step towards strengthening the nation’s law enforcement capabilities.

Simultaneously, Egbetokun directed commanders of the Special Protection Unit to exhibit professionalism and dedication in executing their escort and guard duties. He emphasized the importance of adhering to ethical standards, cautioning against improper conduct such as inappropriate dressing, high-handedness, and substance misuse. Any breach of these guidelines would be met with appropriate disciplinary measures to safeguard the Force’s reputation.

This announcement underscores a promising collaboration between Israel and Nigeria, signaling a concerted effort to fortify the nation’s policing infrastructure for the betterment of security and public safety.
