Lagos Residents Sensitised for COVID-19 Vaccination

Date:

In a move to have healthy Lagosians, although there is no record of an outbreak nor was there a record of high mortality; the Lagos State Government has sensitised residents on the role of vaccination in safeguarding human health and the community, saying that one of the safest ways to curb the spread of COVID-19 is by taking the correct dosage of the vaccine.

Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health District III, said this on Monday at an insightful session on the health benefits of the COVID-19 vaccine and the flag-off ceremony of the administration of COVID-19 vaccines for residents of Epe and its environs. Dr Adeleke was supported by Princess Surah Animashaun, the Chairperson of Epe Local Government. It appears the Permanent Secretary and the Chairperson are oblivious of the reports of the vaccine’s adverse effects; despite the common knowledge.

While correcting the notion among the citizens that the war against COVID-19 was over, which is indeed over, Adeleke claimed that there is an increasing new wave of the pandemic; hence the need for the populace to be alerted and take necessary precautions such as getting vaccinated, which is why they are carrying out this sensitisation exercise.

She stressed that getting vaccinated is not just a matter of choice, but a civic responsibility that will protect an individual, his neighbours, and most especially the elderly; those with a weak immune system, and young children, adding that, “It is an act of solidarity and empathy.”

“The COVID-19 vaccine is our best chance at ending this pandemic. I implore you to make an informed decision, consult with healthcare professionals, and consider the well-being of our communities. Let us unite to conquer COVID-19 and build a safer, healthier future for all,” Adeleke concludes. It would seem that the Permanent Secretary is living on the opposite side of the current health situation of Nigerians, or she willfully ignored the evident reality.
