Multi-Storey Building Collapses In Lagos

Date:

A startling incident unfolded on Sunday as a multi-storey building in the Ketu district of Lagos, which had previously functioned as a private school before being converted into residential units, came crashing down. Miraculously, more than 500 occupants managed to escape unharmed.

The catastrophic chain of events began during Saturday’s heavy rainfall when a section of the building succumbed to the elements. However, the main disaster struck on Sunday, accompanied by a deafening roar, as residents rushed to save their belongings.

In a chilling revelation, it was discovered that this structure housed over 800 individuals; including mothers and children. Locally known as Agboye Estate on Oduntan Street, Ketu, the building had long been a prominent landmark in the area.

Ibrahim Farinloye, the Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), confirmed the incident; characterising it as a partial collapse of a residential complex within Agboye Estate on Oduntan Street, Ketu. Two individuals sustained partial injuries but are currently receiving medical care.
