Tinubu Nominates Abbas Balarabe as El-Rufai’s Replacement

Date:

President Bola Tinubu has sent the nomination of Abbas Balarabe to the senate for confirmation. Abbas Balarabe is a ministerial nominee from Kaduna intended by the president to replace El-Rufai. He served under the administration of El-Rufai as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

This nomination request by the President was contained in a letter read by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, at the plenary on Tuesday. El-Rufai’s name was initially mentioned as minister but his confirmation was withheld by the senate on the ground that it did not have a security clearance on him.

Also nominated alongside Balarabe are Dr Jamila Ibrahaim and Ayodele Olawande as Minister of Youths and Minister of State for Youths respectively. They were earlier nominated also by the president.

The president’s request was based on section 147(2) of the constitution as amended. A statement by presidential spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, announced their appointments last month.

A shocking incident took place during the screening of Balarabe; the nominee collapsed while the screening was ongoing. There was no report of illness prior to the time of the screening, and details of the prognosis are not yet known. Ireport247 will
