Nigeria Plans Petroleum Product Exports In 2024

Date:

In the face of ongoing challenges resulting from the removal of fuel subsidies by President Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian Government has confirmed its intentions to commence the exportation of petroleum products in 2024. Furthermore, the government is actively preparing to implement Compressed Natural Gas(CNG), for buses, aiming to alleviate the pressure on Petroleum Motor Spirit(PMS), and improve gas accessibility for Nigerian citizens.

Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited(NNPCL), disclosed these developments during the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) Energy and Labour Summit (PEALS) in Abuja on Monday. Kyari emphasised that the process of initiating petroleum product exports is well underway, and Nigerians can look forward to reaping the benefits of subsidy removal under the current administration.

He buttressed President Tinubu’s commitment to finding PMS alternatives to alleviate the nation’s economic dependency on fuel. Kyari urged Nigerians to exercise patience with President Tinubu’s administration, which is determined to realise the Renewed Hope Agenda promised to the nation.

PENGASSAN President Festus Osifo stressed the significance of addressing fuel subsidy removal, and the state of the nation’s refineries, as these issues profoundly impact every Nigerian’s life. Osifo called for comprehensive solutions that balance economic viability with the welfare of the population and urged stakeholders to collaborate with the government in achieving these objectives.

Additionally, Osifo advocated for a standardised salary benchmark for oil and gas workers, aligning with industry standards and the needs of the oil and gas community.
