TINUBU APPOINTS NEW MEDIA AIDES

Date:

President Bola Tinubu, demonstrating a commitment to what he called federal character principle and meritocracy, has appointed five individuals to key roles in the Media & Publicity Directorate. Ace public speaker Mr. Fela Durotoye leads the team as Senior Special Assistant to the President for National Values & Social Justice.

Other notable appointments include former Deputy Editor of The Cable and publisher of The Link, Mr. Fredrick Nwabufo, who takes on the role of Senior Special Assistant to the President for Public Engagement.

Additionally, Mrs. Linda Nwabuwa Akhigbe, a Senate Correspondent at Channels Television, steps into the position of Senior Special Assistant to the President for Strategic Communications. Mr. Aliyu Audu, Chairman of the APC pressure group APC Rebirth, joins as Special Assistant to the President for Public Affairs. Completing the list, Mr. Francis Adah Abah assumes the role of Personal Assistant to the President for Special Duties.

President Tinubu has also greenlit the secondment of Mrs. Linda Nwabuwa Akhigbe to serve as the Communications Adviser to the President of the ECOWAS Commission. In his charge to the newly appointed team, the President emphasised the importance of maintaining the highest standards of decorum and decency in all interactions with the public. He underscored their pivotal role in advancing his vision for a restructured economy and a united society that caters to the needs of all Nigerians, regardless of differences.

It is worthy of note that the president handpicked these individuals, that are viewed as ace personnel in their field of expertise for the different roles. A move that has generated so many reactions from the public. Many of the responses however, are of disappointment than congratulatory.

Nigerians expressed disappointment in the individuals for accepting such offer; especially in the wake of the certificate forgery case against the president. Having Fela Durotoye leading the team for National Values and Social Justice, according to popular view is expected  to have declined such appointment from one who is considered to have so many questions surrounding his identity. “What national value or justice has the person giving the appointment displayed that he deems it fit to create the office?!” Says madam Rebecca.

“The appointments already have corruption written all over them considering the person creating the offices. He ought to be the first defaulter of the structure but we all know that will not happen. So, it’s a game,” says Grace.
