Nigerian Government Commits To NTA’s Digital Advancement And Funding Enhancement

Alhaji Mohammed Idris Malagi, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, has affirmed the federal government’s dedication to providing essential resources to propel the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) toward digital transformation, ensuring it fully realises its potential.

This commitment was made during the Minister’s visit to NTA and other affiliated agencies under the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation. Malagi stressed the urgency of expediting NTA’s digitisation and empowering it to compete effectively on the global media stage.

He highlighted the organisation’s enduring role in shaping the nation’s information and entertainment landscape, and emphasised the importance of delivering accurate, reliable, and balanced news. The Minister also highlighted the Ministry’s dedication to value reorientation, leveraging NTA’s extensive reach to promote civil consciousness and moral reawakening.

The Minister articulated his vision of modernising public information platforms, with a primary emphasis on NTA’s digitisation. He emphasised the need to enhance picture quality and position NTA as the premier television destination in Nigeria and beyond, at par with other global broadcasting organisations.

Recognising the financial requirements for this transformation, Malagi pledged to marshal the necessary resources, underscoring the unwavering support of President Tinubu and the administration for NTA’s success.

Salihu Abdulhamin Dembos, the Director General of NTA, expressed his elation at the Minister’s visit; considering it a pivotal milestone in achieving the television network’s national objectives. He highlighted various achievements, including streamlined processes, improved technology, and expanded coverage through bureaus in different countries.

Notwithstanding these accomplishments, the DG stated the challenges, which include funding constraints, infrastructure issues, power supply, and industry competition. He called for government and NTA collaboration to address these challenges and reaffirmed NTA’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of journalism, broadcasting, and media excellence, with the invaluable guidance and support of the Minister.
