LAMATA says Lagos Blue Rail Line Now Fully Electric

Date:

The Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Mrs Abimbola Akinajo, has announced that the much awaited Blue Line rail system from Marina to Mile 2 now runs on electricity,

Mrs Akinajo, rode on one of the train sets during the final test of the train running on electricity alongside the operator of the Marina to Mile 2 train services, consultants, the rail infrastructure contractor, Messrs. CCECC, and the press, with the second train also running on the other track, from Marina to Mile 2 and back in less than one hour.

She said that the successful completion of the test run was a dream come true for Lagos, adding that “Lagos has become an example for other cities in Africa.”

The LAMATA boss also said that the two train sets will run 54 trips daily within a 30 minutes interval. This, she said, will reduce the issue of commuters rushing to get on the train.

She appealed to Lagosians using the corridor to avoid the temptation of walking on the tracks, as the tracks are electrified and people will be electrocuted if they walk on them.

Finally, Mrs Akinajo assured the safety and security of everyone using the system, saying that there are over 300 CCTV cameras monitoring the system along the corridor, and in the stations, and any infraction detected will be promptly taken care of.
