FG PLANS TO GENERATE N28.1BN FROM IJORA WORKSHOP CONCESSION

Date:

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced its intention to generate N28.1 billion from the 20-year concession of the Central Workshop Ijora. This historic workshop, which played a crucial role in maintaining vehicles, sewage treatment plants, and water supply equipment during the colonial era, is set to undergo extensive rehabilitation and be operated optimally.

Head of Media and Publicity, Manji Yarling, revealed that the concession will follow a Rehabilitate-Operate-Maintain-Transfer PPP model, with the aim of upgrading the Central Workshop to ensure its functions are fully realised. The initiative is an unsolicited project by Beta Transport Nigeria Limited and falls under the purview of the Federal Ministry of Works.

Following approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), the concessionaire will oversee the implementation of modern equipment, and adherence to standard guidelines and operating procedures, thereby ensuring productive and professional work at the workshop. This significant development is poised to not only revitalise the Central Workshop but also contribute to the federal government’s revenue stream over the 20-year concession period.
