TINUBU CONFERS WITH SOUTH KOREAN ENVOY

President Bola Tinubu held a crucial meeting with Mr. Won Hee-Ryong, the Special Envoy of the South Korean President, over the weekend in Abuja. The discussions centered on avenues for expanding investment and trade relations across vital sectors of Nigeria’s economy.This meeting followed productive talks between President Tinubu and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol during the G-20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, India.

President Tinubu praised the progress made in implementing the commitments discussed with President Yoon in India, emphasising their goal of fortifying economic and technological cooperation between the two nations.

He stated, “I am encouraged by your President’s recognition of these requests and the significance of Nigeria in the African context, demonstrated by sending you as a Special Envoy. Rest assured, we are dedicated to providing the necessary support to strengthen the longstanding bilateral relationship.”

President Tinubu also highlighted the potential for increased South Korean involvement in upgrading Nigeria’s national transportation system. He stressed the importance of greater South Korean investment in local industries to promote youth employment and technology transfer, drawing inspiration from South Korea’s successful model.

“This project presents a significant opportunity for fruitful collaboration and the development of a pragmatic and dynamic business partnership,” President Tinubu remarked.

The Special Envoy conveyed President Yoon’s letter, outlining instructions to South Korea’s ministries to diligently execute crucial projects discussed during their G-20 Summit meeting. This included finalsing the Trade and Investment Promotion Framework (TIPF) between both nations.

Additionally, an invitation was extended to President Tinubu to attend the Africa-Korea Summit scheduled for June 4–5, 2024, in Seoul. South Korea also sought Nigeria’s support in hosting Expo 2030 in Busan, South Korea.
