Lagos Government Initiates Demolition Of Structures Near Drainage

On the 30th of October, Yesterday, the Lagos State Government embarked on the removal of perimeter fences situated within a two-meter radius of drainage channels along Norman Williams, Awolowo, and Ribadu roads in the Ikoyi district of the state.

This action followed the conclusion of the grace period provided to property owners in the affected areas, as stated in a Sunday announcement by the state’s Ministry of Environment and Water Resources.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, personally assessed the situation on Norman Williams Street on Sunday and expressed dismay at the limited compliance among homeowners, stating that it is disheartening to observe that only a few homeowners have adhered to the regulations, while a significant majority have not taken any steps in this regard.

Accompanying the Commissioner was Mr. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, who strongly denounced the non-cooperative stance of these homeowners.
