President Tinubu Appoints New Leadership for NNPC

On Monday, President Bola Tinubu reshaped the leadership structure of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited(NNPCL). Effective December 1, 2023, Pius Akinyelure assumes the role of Board Chairman, while Mele Kyari, the incumbent Group Chief Executive Officer, secures reappointment for another term.

The official announcement came through a statement titled ‘President Tinubu Appoints NNPC Board and Management Team,’ signed by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

Key figures in the revamped board include Umar Ajiya as Chief Financial Officer and non-executive directors Ledum Mitee, Musa Tumsa, and Ghali Muhammad. Joining as non-executive directors are Prof. Mustapha Aliyu, David Ogbodo, and Ms. Eunice Thomas.

President Tinubu also sanctioned the elevation of two Permanent Secretaries – Mr. Okokon Udo, now at the helm of the Federal Ministry of Finance, and Gabriel Aduda, assuming the role of Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources.

Underlining a commitment to a performance-driven agenda, President Tinubu charged the newly appointed officials with the task of implementing energy policies that not only maximize Nigeria’s oil and gas resources but also lay the groundwork for future clean energy initiatives.
