SYLVESTER OTHUKE EGEDE APPOINTED AS PORT MANAGER OF TIN CAN ISLAND PORT COMPLEX

Date:

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has named Sylvester Othuke Egede as the substantive Port Manager of the Tin Can Island Port Complex in Lagos. Egede assumes this role following the tenure of Akin Leoso, who held the position on an interim basis since November 2023 after the retirement of former Port Manager Jubril Buba.

The Tin Can Island Port is the country’s second-largest seaport. Prior to his new appointment, Egede served as the Traffic Manager of the Lagos Port Complex Apapa. He also held the role of Traffic Manager at the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal in Apapa, Lagos, from 2021 until August 2023.

Egede brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having previously served as the Traffic Manager at Rivers Port in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Additionally, he worked as the former Personal Assistant (Operations) to the Executive Director of Marine and Operations at NPA.

His professional affiliations include membership in the American Society of Safety Professionals, and being a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, among others.

Egede’s extensive professional background encompasses various roles such as Personal Assistant to the Port Manager at Tincan Island Port, Secretary to the Implementation Committee on ISPS code Regime in the Port, and Senior Traffic Officer supervising vessel discharge, handling, and cargo delivery at TCIPC.

He holds a B.Sc. in Geography from the University of Jos (1986-1990) and an M.Sc. in Transport Planning from Lagos State University (LASU) (1997-1998). His commitment to continuous learning is evident through his attendance at numerous conferences, seminars, and workshops, both locally and internationally, including those organised by ASCON, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), and the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH), among others.

Egede’s rich educational and professional background, coupled with his vast experience in port management and administration, underscores his suitability for the role of Port Manager at Tin Can Island Port. He has since assumed office in this capacity and is known for his prowess in operational management.
