UI ASUU GRANTS SCHOLARSHIPS TO SIX BRILLIANT INDIGENT STUDENTS

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) the University of Ibadan (UI) branch has recently awarded scholarships to six exceptional students facing financial constraints. This initiative, which is part of the 2023 Indigent Students Scholarship Award, is aimed at supporting academically outstanding, yet financially disadvantaged students within the institution.

Prof. Ayo Akinwole, the Chairman of ASUU UI chapter, disclosed that the scholarships were divided into two categories: the ASUU National Award and the ASUU UI Branch Award. Two students were granted N200,000 each under the national category, while the remaining four received N100,000 each as part of the branch award.

Akinwole elaborated on the selection process, highlighting the involvement of ASUU committee, which consists of faculty members responsible for evaluating candidates based on their financial need and academic excellence.

The scholarship program, initiated in 2018, serves as a testament to ASUU’s commitment to facilitating the education of deserving students experiencing financial hardships. Despite existing challenges, the union remains steadfast in its dedication to nurturing capable minds and ensuring that financial constraints do not impede students’ pursuit of education.

The presentation ceremony witnessed the presence of Prof. Oyebamiji Oyegoke, the Ibadan Zone Chairman of ASUU, emphasising the union’s ongoing efforts to positively impact students’ educational endeavors. This reflects ASUU’s unwavering commitment to empowering the academic aspirations of its students.
