Horizon Award: Nigerian Journalist Makes History

Date:

In the United States, Adebola Aderibigbe, a 20-year-old Nigerian, has become the first African, and the youngest individual ever to be honoured with the prestigious Horizon Award at the 15th ‘Realising The Dream Legacy’ Awards Banquet.

Adebola, a native of Abeokuta, Ogun State, was acknowledged for her commitment to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s ideals of promoting social justice, peace, and equality. She has demonstrated vision, courage, and leadership, working towards improving the quality of life for all.

Driven by her journalistic passion, Adebola embarked on her advocacy journey for the rights of the girl child at the age of 15, winning the International Day of the Girl Child Essay Contest. Currently a sophomore at Stillman College, Alabama, she manages The House Tuscaloosa; volunteering to enhance literacy in The West End Community through educational, musical, and spiritual initiatives.

Adebola’s influence extends beyond borders as she represented sub-Saharan Africa at the With And For Girls Awards in London in 2019. She also featured on the podcast interview segment of IG Advisors, a UK-based organisation specialising in strategy consultancy for social and environmental change.

In addition to her advocacy work, Adebola runs the ‘Girls Matter Too’ initiative, and volunteers with The Legend Lifeskills Foundation; equipping young people, especially girls, with skills for success in life and career.
