PRIVATE SCHOOLS EXPLOITING UTME CANDIDATES: JAMB REGISTRAR

Date:

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, expressed concern over private secondary schools extorting Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Oloyede highlighted the mismanagement of candidates’ data,; emphasising that each candidate should register individually from his/her phone. He urged candidates to register directly at the designated centres; refuting the notion of school-based examinations.

Oloyede also addressed challenges faced by students with disabilities. He revealed that last year, JAMB established 11 UTME centres specifically for Persons With Disabilities, aiming to provide equal opportunities for all candidates. Oloyede confirmed the commencement of the 2024 UTME registration, which will conclude in the next four weeks.

Some private schools were reported to charge exorbitant fees: claiming it’s for JAMB forms, while the actual cost is lower. He then stressed that the examination is not school based; hence candidates are encouraged to do the purchase on their own.
