NITDA AND COURSERA COLLABORATE FOR IT TRAINING IN NIGERIA

Date:

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has partnered with Coursera to open applications for Cohort 3 of Coursera courses. This initiative aligns with NITDA’s commitment to implementing President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda; aiming to create one million digital jobs in the Information Technology sector.

The Head of Corporate Affairs and External Relations at NITDA, Mrs. Hadiza Umar, revealed that the training program is a result of a collaboration launched on October 19, 2022. The goal is to address the high rates of youth unemployment in Nigeria, which stood at 19.6% in 2021.

Coursera, a renowned online learning platform, offers selected learners from NITDA access to educational content from top universities and popular tech platforms, including Yale, Meta, Google, and IBM. This partnership aims to enhance the technical capabilities of Nigerian youths and develop IT talent.

The training program provides Nigerian learners with access to Coursera’s Professional Certificates portfolio, designed to empower them with skills necessary for industry certification examinations or launching a career in specific fields such as IT support within three months.

Cohort 3 of the skills program will focus on the 3 Million Tech Talent (3MTT) initiative of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy. The courses offered include Software Development, UI/UX Design, Data Analysis and Visualisations, Quality Assurance, Product Management, Data Science, Animation, AI/Machine Learning, Cyber Security, and Cloud Computing.

Beneficiaries of the first and second cohorts ranged from students, government workers, entrepreneurs, and academics. The feedback from learners has been positive, with an average rating of 4.8/5.0, indicating enthusiasm among Nigerians for digital up-skilling on the Coursera platform.

Interested Nigerians can apply for the IT training program from January 24, 2024. The program is expected to commence on February 10, 2024.
