Lagos Sets Up Health Board Selection Committee

The Lagos State Government has established a 15-member Health Board Selection Committee to identify and appoint qualified individuals to serve in various agencies under the Lagos State Ministry of Health.

Led by Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, the committee aims to ensure effective governance and leadership within health sector agencies for improved healthcare service delivery to Lagos residents.

Comprising a Chairman, a senior civil servant experienced in governance, and a Secretary from the Ministry of Health, along with representatives from relevant departments, industry experts, and an independent auditor, the committee is tasked with selecting individuals with the necessary qualifications and commitment to serve as board members.

Key members of the committee include Chairman Dr. Olufunmilayo Shokunbi, Secretary Dr. Victoria Omoera, and distinguished professionals in healthcare, administration, law, finance, and academia.

The committee’s primary objectives include identifying and selecting individuals with the requisite skills, and dedication to serve effectively. Commissioner Abayomi advocated for transparency in the selection process to ensure candidates meet the required standards.

Dr. Mrs. Kemi Ogunyemi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, emphasised the committee’s alignment with the Health and Environment mandate of the THEMES PLUS agenda; highlighting its role in providing guidance to agencies for efficient operation.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, commended committee members for their commitment to developing a sustainable healthcare delivery system in the state.
