FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PLEDGES TO ADDRESS CONCERNS OF NURSES AND MIDWIVES

Date:

The Federal Government has pledged to address the concerns raised by the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) in order to improve healthcare services. Dr. Salma Anas-Kolo, Presidential adviser on health, assured that the government is committed to resolving issues affecting nurses and midwives to ensure their happiness, and enhance service delivery.

NANNM members recently staged protests in Abuja and Lagos, expressing dissatisfaction with what they perceived as obstacles hindering their career. The concerns primarily revolve around welfare, salary scales, staff shortages, and other benefits due the medical practitioners, which they have been denied or deprived of hitherto.

In response to these grievances, the government promised to improve the working environment and welfare of healthcare workers nationwide. Dr. Salma-Kolo emphasised the critical role nurses and midwives play in healthcare delivery, underscoring their importance even in the absence of doctors.

The government has decided  to address areas of conflict and rivalry within the healthcare sector; striving to create an enabling environment that motivates nurses and midwives. The Tinubu administration has also decided to ensure the happiness of all health workers by improving human resources management.
