The Comptroller General of Nigerian Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, has instructed all Comptrollers to promptly follow President Bola Tinubu’s order to reopen the borders between Nigeria and Niger Republic for unrestricted human movement. This directive, disclosed through Nandap’s spokesperson, Kenneth Kure, ensures strict adherence to border crossing regulations.
In response to the Federal Government’s directive to reopen the borders between Nigeria and Niger Republic, Nandap directed all Comptrollers stationed at States, and all Commands along the border to ensure immediate compliance, as well as the subsequent lifting of restrictions on all forms of migration. The Nigerian Immigration Service reaffirms its commitment to facilitating safe and orderly border crossings, while maintaining the security and integrity of Nation’s borders.
President Tinubu’s directive aligns with the decisions made by the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government during its extraordinary summit on February 24, 2024, in Abuja, as per ECOWAS leaders’ agreement to lift economic sanctions against Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea. That includes the opening of land and air borders between Nigeria these nations; lifting the ECOWAS no-fly zone on commercial flights to and from Niger Republic, as well as the resumption of commercial and financial transactions between the two countries, along with utility services and electricity provision.
