The Federal Government has announced plans to construct student hostels in 36 tertiary institutions across Nigeria. This decision was revealed by the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Sonny Echono, during a meeting with the new leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by President Lucky Emonefe.
Echono emphasised the government’s commitment to addressing the challenge of student housing in higher institutions. He stated that the hostels would be built to accommodate 50 to 60 per cent of students and would be of high quality to attract students from around the world.
Additionally, Echono promised increased allocation for the maintenance of TETFund infrastructure and expressed willingness to construct more hostels beyond the initial 36 institutions.
