EDO GOVERNOR FACILITATES ISSUANCE OF 30,000 CERTIFICATES OF OCCUPANCY

Date:

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, announced that his administration has issued over 30,000 Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) to investors in the past eight years. Speaking at the commissioning of the headquarters of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers in Abuja, Obaseki highlighted the significance of this initiative in opening up space for investment; particularly in the real estate and built environment value chain.

Obaseki emphasised the role of the recently established State Geographic Information Service (EdoGIS), which allows individuals to access documents online. He noted that this advancement has streamlined the process of acquiring C-of-O, reducing the timeframe to just 60 days.

Addressing challenges within Nigeria’s built environment, such as quackery, building collapses, and real estate scams, Obaseki underscored the importance of professional bodies like the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV). He commended NIESV for upholding professionalism, and maintaining high standards of service delivery within the industry.

President of NIESV, Johnbull Amayaevbo, expressed gratitude to Obaseki for the collaboration with the Edo State government. As an active participant in the real estate sector, NIESV looks forward to continued partnership with the government to achieve common objectives related to housing, economic development, job creation, and prosperity.
