Bolt, a prominent on-demand transport platform in Africa, recently organised a Driver-Led Safety Summit in Benin City, reaffirming its dedication to maintaining safety and security within the ride-hailing sector.

The event, themed ‘Safe for All: Navigating the Future of Ride-Hailing,’ brought together various stakeholders, including driver-partners, industry experts, and government officials from Edo State Transport Authority, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), among others.

The summit marks a significant step in promoting collaboration and knowledge-sharing among the ride-hailing community, highlighting a collective commitment to establishing a sustainable and secure environment for all participants.

Mrs. Edugie Agbonlahor, the Managing Director of the Edo State Transport Authority (ESTA), commended Bolt for initiating the summit, emphasising the crucial role of safety in preserving and enhancing the state’s ride-hailing ecosystem.

To enhance the operational environment for ride-hailing services, ESTA has developed regulations specific to the sector. Once officially gazetted, these regulations will govern ride-hailing activities, ensuring orderliness, dispelling misconceptions, and addressing issues such as harassment by local government task forces. Additionally, the state plans to incorporate technology by introducing API integration with operators and providing visual identifiers for ride-hailing drivers, streamlining interactions with local authorities and exempting them from daily ticketing.

The collaborative efforts between government agencies and industry stakeholders underscore a shared commitment to ensuring the safety and sustainability of ride-hailing operations in Edo State, emphasising the importance of ongoing dialogue and cooperation to address challenges and foster growth in the sector.
