Government To Train 10 Million Artisans For Job Opportunities

Date:

A new initiative, spearheaded by the Federal Government and the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) is set to train, and empower 10 Million artisans across Nigeria within the next two years.

Under the leadership of Minister Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, the initiative, known as Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA), is designed to enhance the skills of artisans, providing them with the necessary licensing and support for local, and international job opportunities.

With Nigeria’s population expected to exceed 220 Million, and unemployment rates remaining high, there is a pressing need to create ample job opportunities. The SUPA programme aims to address this challenge by equipping artisans with the skills and resources they need to thrive in the workforce.

Through comprehensive training programmes, and access to essential tools and equipment, artisans will be better prepared to contribute to the nation’s economy and secure meaningful employment opportunities.

Dr. Anite emphasised the importance of certification and standardised practices to ensure the quality of services provided by artisans. The SUPA initiative is in alignment with the government’s broader efforts to promote skills development and economic growth.

Key objectives of the programme include identifying artisans across various sectors, providing industry-compliant training programmes, and enhancing employment prospects both locally and internationally.

Artisans participating in the programme will benefit from certification, access to tools and funding, and opportunities for skill development and growth within their respective trades.

To support the initiative’s reach and impact, non-artisans are encouraged to share registration links with artisans in their communities. Together, they can work towards building a more skilled and prosperous workforce for the future.
