Nigeria Unites Experts To Shape AI Future

The Nigerian Government is bringing together 120 local experts and startups in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to collaborate on shaping the country’s AI landscape.

Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, announced plans for the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Workshop in Abuja from April 15th to 18th, 2024.

Tijani highlighted the importance of this strategy in driving AI applications across sectors like education, agriculture, and healthcare, aiming to boost Nigeria’s economy and improve lives.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s AI journey, Tijani stressed the need for a comprehensive strategy, building on past initiatives like the National Artificial Intelligence Research Scheme (NAIRS), and the Fourth Industrial Revolution Technology Application (4IRTA) project.

Looking forward, Tijani emphasised the value of collaboration with leading AI researchers and startups to effectively implement AI solutions nationwide.

Furthermore, he noted the Ministry’s efforts to engage over 6,000 AI researchers of Nigerian descent globally, recognising their vital role in advancing AI deployment, and creating jobs in Nigeria.

Tijani had notably invited Nigerians to recommend AI researchers of Nigerian origin to contribute to the development of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy.
