17-Year-Old Nigerian Awarded Full Scholarships to Top Universities


A 17-year-old student, Emmanuela Ilok, has received full scholarships to study Software Engineering at prestigious universities including Stanford, MIT, Yale, UPenn, Princeton, and Columbia. Education activist and CEO of Educare, Alex Onyia, shared Ilok’s accomplishments on social media, highlighting her exceptional academic achievements.


Ilok has been nationally recognised as the best in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education in Nigeria by the British Council. Additionally, she developed a software application that uses Machine Learning to detect breast cancer in women, achieving a 91% detection accuracy.


Onyia, who recently hosted a virtual meeting for Ilok to guide Nigerian students on accessing such opportunities, praised her potential, describing her as a “superstar.” He emphasised the importance of identifying and nurturing exceptional talents like Ilok to help Nigeria shine on the global stage.
