Schneider Electric Launches Villaya Flex Microgrid to Enhance Energy Access

Schneider Electric has introduced its Villaya Flex microgrid solution, aimed at providing clean energy access to off-grid communities and institutions. The unveiling took place at the Energy Access Investment Forum (EAIF) conference at Eko Hotels in Lagos.

Thomas Bonicel, Director of MEAS, Access to Energy at Schneider Electric, highlighted the company’s goal to support universal access to sustainable energy. The Villaya Flex microgrid is designed to maximize solar energy use while reducing reliance on traditional genset systems. It incorporates intelligent monitoring and an integrated management system to optimise energy source management.

Ajibola Akindele, Country President of Schneider Electric West Africa, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency. He noted Schneider Electric’s efforts to achieve net zero emissions by 2030 in all operations, with an end-to-end carbon-neutral value chain by 2040, and a net zero CO2 value chain by 2050.

Teina Teibowei, Commercial Leader of Microgrid at Schneider Electric, explained that the Villaya Flex aims to provide a dependable and sustainable energy supply for rural, off-grid communities. This initiative aligns with Schneider Electric’s broader mission to empower communities by offering clean and reliable energy access.

The company is committed to providing clean electricity access to 50 million people by 2025 and 100 million by 2030. Schneider Electric’s solutions have already benefited 46.5 million people. The Villaya Flex microgrid solution is expected to play a crucial role in addressing the electrification challenges faced by remote communities, potentially supporting the World Bank’s Nigeria Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) project.
