Friesland Campina Secures $5 Million Grant from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Friesland Campina, one of the leading Value4Dairy Association has secured a $5 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to enhance productivity and sustainability in Nigeria’s dairy sector.

 

The executive director of Corporate Affairs at Friesland Campina WAMCO Nigeria Plc, Ore Famurewa, explained that the grant will cover 50% of the company’s latest project, that is aimed at advancing systemic and sustainable local dairy production in Nigeria.

 

The Value4Dairy Consortium was launched in April 2021, and it comprises of four strategic partners who specialise in various agri-related value chains including Friesland Campina WAMCO, URUS, Barenbrug, and Agrifirm. Jeroen Elfers, the Global Dairy Development director at Friesland Campina, emphasised on the company’s commitment to build resilient local dairy value chains and foster the growth and development of Nigeria’s dairy sector.

 

According to Elfers, the grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will help speed up and move the project forward, enabling the creation of a more robust program for transitioning into a sustainable, self-sufficient, and inclusive dairy value chain in Nigeria. Roger Adou, the Managing Director of FrieslandCampina WAMCO, also emphasised the aim of empowering local farmers, increasing milk production, and contributing to the nation’s agricultural prosperity.
