On Tuesday, Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State endorsed the incumbent Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for a second term in office and shunned the governorship ambition of Olajide Adediran, known as Jandor of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Lagos State. Wike was the special guest of honour at the 2022 Annual Conference of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), with the theme ‘Spring forth, stand out’, which was held at Eko Hotel and Suites. Governor Wike commended Governor Sanwo-Olu’s performance in office in which he gave women the opportunity to serve in various capacities in the state; especially the judiciary, saying it earned him a second term. He also donated#300m to the conference.
Governor Wike stated: “By the grace of GOD, you will be a second-term Governor. Lagos State is doing better than other states in this country because Lagos has allowed women to participate in governance in various capacities. I am very happy to participate in this conference; I don’t play politics of ethnicity even if Sanwo-Olu is in my party but is not doing well, I wouldn’t have come; I do not regret saying I am in support of you.”
Sanwo-Olu commended the organizers of the conference for their positive contributions to the state, urging the participants to vote for him for a second term in office; adding that they should not be deceived by anyone.
Although, Gbenga Ogunleye, spokesman of the Jandor Campaign Organisation, while speaking with Press men said there was nothing like endorsement in Wike’s comment; “it’s not an endorsement, you know, Wike has been inviting people from other political parties to commission projects in his state and he said the reason he is doing that is to let them see his performance.”
