President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mr. Aminu Umar-Sadiq as the new Managing Director of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA). This was said in a statement released last night by Mr. Tanko Abdullahi, Special Adviser, Media & Communications to the Honorable Minister of Finance, Budget & National Planning. According to him, the appointment followed the expiration of the tenure of Mr. Uche Orji. He said, “The appointment of the new MD follows the expiration of the tenure of the erstwhile MD, Mr. Uche Orji, whose tenure expired on the 30th of September, 2022 after serving two five-year terms, following his appointment on 2nd October, 2012” Additionally, two Executive Directors were chosen. They were both Executive Directors for the NSIA, Mr. Kolawole Owodunni and Mrs. Bisi Makoju. According to Section 16(3) of the NSIA Establishment Act 2011, the Executive Nomination Committee (ENC) must be established in order to start the recruiting and selection process for Mr. Orji, the MD, and the Executive Directors’ replacements.
Aminu Umar-Sadiq holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Engineering Sciences from the University of Oxford (Saint John’s College), Oxford, United Kingdom. He is currently an Executive Director and Head of Infrastructure (UK). He holds both the Mandela Washington Fellowship and the Archbishop Tutu Leadership Fellowship (MWF). All in the UK, Umar-Sadiq started his professional career in infrastructure- and energy-focused mergers and acquisitions (M&A) at Morgan Stanley Investment Bank before moving on to infrastructure-focused private equity at Denham Capital Management.
He has contributed to a number of initiatives, such as the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative, which aims to distribute 1 million high-quality, lower-cost metric tons of fertilizer to farmers. He also participated in the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund, an investment vehicle dedicated to the implementation of five important national projects in the electricity and transportation industries. While Mr. Kolawole Owodunni has 18 years of expertise in the financial services industry and focuses on investment management, risk management, and Treasury, Mrs. Bisi Makoju is a financial expert with extensive knowledge in financial risk management. They are all anticipated to contribute to the direction and transformation of the infrastructure and investment sector and raise the sector to a high pedestal.
