Nigeria to Face Ban for Pulling Out of AFCON Beach Soccer

The Nigerian National Beach Soccer team will not be taking part in the African Championship due to lack of funds; meaning that the new board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), led by Ibrahim Gusau may have started their administration on a bad note. The African Beach Soccer Championship will begin on October 21 in Mozambique, but the Sand Eagles of Nigeria will not participate. And for failing to turn up for the 2022 African Beach Football Championship, Nigeria will be fined by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF). Nigeria also faces ban from the following 2024 edition of the Championship.

The town of Vilankulos in Mozambique will host the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations, tagged Mozambique 2022. Following the withdrawal of Nigeria, CAF has released a revised fixture for the competition which will now see seven teams compete for the ultimate prize at the fifth edition tournament.

The hosts Mozambique, Malawi and Morocco are the three (3) teams in Group A, while four teams make up Group B. They are Senegal, Uganda, Madagascar and Egypt. The 2022 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations will kick off at Vilankulos Arena, with hosts, Mozambique, 2021 AFCON runners-up, facing debutant, Malawi. The final will take place on October 28.
